Well it’s that time of year again, time to jump on a jet plane and head out for adventures – a trip to the South and then a jaunt up to Boston.

I love this time of year, summer vacations and explorations – and of course an excuse to compile an all-new traveling trousseau. Gone are the days when women would spend hours and days at the local seamstress as she prepared for her summer’s abroad, but I like to think I arrange my suitcases with the same care they packed their trunks.

As I head out for my excursion, I don’t plan on leaving all you Society Girl’s behind. I plan on taking you on the fashion side of my travels.

Sometimes girl’s got to put on a pencil skirt and head to the office. There is something about the office that deters most from dressing their best and being their stylish self. The corporate world is filled with black, black and maybe a little white – but I say don’t shy away from your inner Society Girl. Embrace the opportunity to dress it up and step up the chic factor.

If your office is a little more conservative keep one or two pieces on the down low, but add interesting elements with stand out accessories or a dramatic skirt, jacket or shoes. Do it the Society Girl way..

Inspired by the most recent Instant Outfit, I took it upon myself to create a look combining “Stripes and Florals”. My look came out a bit boho-chic, which I seem to find myself drawn to often these days.

My new signature element is a string of pearls that has been collecting dust in the jewelry case - but Carrie Bradshaw brought the “pearl-girl” back out in me.

The Society Swap was a grand success - girls came with what they considered trash and left with new treasures!

Swapping clothes is seriously the most fun thing possible. I dumped out three trash bags full of clothes that - I didn’t wear, didn’t fit, or were just not my style anymore - I returned with a dress I had coveted from H&M a few years back, a cute eyelet skirt and two funky new t-shirts for summer.

There will be more swaps to come with much more notice.. so start storing your “trash” so that you can trade for some treasure!

A Peek Inside the Party

A peek inside The Vintage Society party for all who weren’t able to attend. The evening was just about perfection - the only glitch being the ridiculous heat wave we were experiencing in Los Angeles. Other than that, it was a blast meeting many Society Girls who came out to celebrate- thanks for joining me!

The highlight of the evening was meeting our Boston Society Girl - Francesca! She received the traveling shirt and styled an incredibly inspiring “Sailor’s Wife” creation. Chatting with Francesca and her boyfriend Paul was so much fun. It is amazing connecting with Society Girls from around the country!

All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better evening! Now on to more Society fun…

Before the traveling shirt took it's place at The Vintage Society Launch Party, I was able to showcase the girls at a fashion show/party in Santa Monica, which featured the new Quiksilver Women's line.

I was excited to wear my own version of the traveling shirt, and since the weather was STEAMING hot I had to play it cool. So after traveling from one ocean to the next.. it finally landed on my back!

It has been an adventure and all this hoopla has been building up to one big bang..

Society Girl's and the Traveling Shirt!

It came down to one shirt that traveled near and far, landing in the hands of six amazing Society Girls. Each one received and styled their own signature look using one of my personal favorites from Quiksilver Women's new clothing line.

As it traveled from one girl to the next, I was utterly in awe of what they created. Each one so unique and so unlike the other girls. INSPIRATION AT ITS BEST!!

Before I turn you over to dive into their world and their creations.. I just wanted to add that these women will be showcased this weekend at The Vintage Society Launch Party at SiteLA (for more information, look to the posts below). I would love anyone of you to attend and celebrate Society Girl's around the world.

Rhiannon, 27

This Society Girl hails from Chicago, Illinois and successfully runs an incredibly enticing online vintage shop, Liebemarlene Vintage on Ebay.

The traveling shirt arrived at her doorstep and as she put together her signature look she was inspired by the idea of mixing graphic prints with romanticism, “I was inspired by Gilbert Adrian's 1930s Victorian costumes!”

Rhiannon’s personal style is “heavily influenced by books, old movies and anything pretty. I wear mostly vintage--mainly dresses--and I'm over-dressed for every occasion, but I think I secretly try to be.”

In her own words, “A Society Girl is an Individual, a Risk-taker, and Nostalgic”

Sarah, 25

This Society Girl hails from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and has the interesting task of spending her days working on Historic Preservation and Restoration of Historic Finishes

The traveling shirt popped up in her mailbox after visiting Rhiannon and immediately she thought of pairing it with a jumper she’d bought at a local thrift store. “I shortened the jumper because it reminded me of the Mooka Kinney Spring ‘08 Collection, and the addition of the vintage scarf tied in a bow with the vintage glasses on the chain were inspired by the geeky, yet lady-like elements in the Luella Spring/Summer ‘08 Collection.”

Sarah’s personal style is, “Ever-changing, but never without vintage elements.”

In her own words, “A Society Girl is Quirky, Innovative, and Notable”

Jennifer, 32

This Society Girl hails from the good ‘ole Southern state of Alabama and runs a “make-me-want-to-buy everything” online vintage shop, Sally Jane Vintage on Ebay.

The traveling shirt made it’s way through the mail after visiting Sarah and she created an outfit based on, “Her current obsession with super high waists and scarves. I also love classic military inspired styles and the nautical stripes on the shirt were perfect to play off of.”

Jennifer’s personal style is, “Constantly evolving and based entirely on my mood. I love mixing vintage with new pieces. I'm currently loving super high waist, vintage dresses, high heeled boots and scarves.”

In her own words, “A Society Girl is Creative, Independent, and Free-spirited.”

Siri, 23

This Society Girl hails from Brooklyn, New York by way of Santa Cruz, California by way of the Pacific Northwest and is currently a film student.

The traveling shirt plopped down in New York after visiting Jennifer and immediately she knew it needed some “Siri-ness” when creating a look. “I think what this look really comes down to is the fact that, at heart, I'm just a born and bread, flower-loving hippie. This shirt is so classic and simple, which I love, but I also wanted to add some wackiness!”

Siri’s personal style is, “Nostalgic, eclectic, and cheap.”

In her own words, “A Society Girl is Independent, Intelligent and Fun-to-be-around.”

Francesca, 21

This Society Girl hails from Boston, Massachusetts and is currently in transition between jobs, but hopes to go back to school and study Fashion Merchandising.

The traveling shirt jumped states after visiting Siri and being a bit nostalgic she created a look inspired by, “Sailor wives and shipyards.”

Francesca’s personal style is “Girlish and nostalgic.”

In her own words, “A Society Girl is Distinctive, Captivating, Timeless.”

Riikka, 21

This Society Girl hails from Helsinki, Finland and has her nose stuck in the books studying journalism.

The traveling shirt crossed the great ocean after visiting Francesca and being a fellow fashion blogger, she drew inspiration from Swedish Street style blogs while creating her look. “I love the way girls in Sweden pair loose shirts with tight little high-waisted skirts.”

Rikka’s personal style is “Vintage inspired and feminine. I like to play with my style and try out different (and sometimes over the top) combinations.”

In her own words, “ A Society Girl is Independent, Playful, Chic.”

Risky Business

OK, a bit risky... bathing suit season and... I am posting a photo of myself in it... what the heck am I doing... well..

It's just the greatest vintage one piece I could imagine for summer.. and I had to let Society Girls get a peek. I also risked scoring it at a thrift store.. did some major cleaning and I think I am ready to hit the beach.

There are so many amazing Society Girl popping up everywhere, and this one stands out like a high heel among flats.

She has classic elements remnicint of Katherine Hepburn, always mixing in a little masculinity - but at the same time staying true to her feminine nature. Her sense of style is about a simplicity that packs a punch!

Being a shoe lover, I can't help but notice her own obsession with platform heels and covetess boots. Almost all seem to come from a cost-friendly shoes site (check it out).

Little Elephants

Little elephants parade along this fun and free-lovin perfect summer top. It was scored at a local thrift shop and I noticed it was torn around the bottom edge. It must have lived as a granny's mu-mu in the old days, but was discovered by a girl like me looking to live in it. Eventually she turned over to the stacks and I discovered it among the racks.

It's been recylced and I couldn't be more enthused to own it for a time. At some point, I am sure it will get tossed in the "clean-out-the-closet" bag.. but until then I will be sportin' the little elephants all summer long.

Thrown together in the matter of moments, those are sometimes the best creations. It is where "effortless" comes in to play. Times when there isn't much thought put into an outfit, just pulling from the closet "this with this.. and that" - then out the door.

Standing Alone

Sometimes less is more! Sometimes it is about layers, accessorizing and making an outfit incredibly interesting and hard for others to duplicate - BUT sometimes it's about one or two great pieces that simply stand alone.

I came across this vintage dress recently, and knew instantly that this was a stand alone piece. The print, the detailing, the POCKETS (those pockets) - made it almost perfect.

And it became perfection when paired with my newly acquired perfect (I hunted these for months) brown strappy platform sandals!

They stand alone.

Yet another item checked of the Summer Hit List - the red high top Converse Chuck Taylors!

This has been a long time coming - I have dreamt of the red canvas shoes with the star patch for a long time, but for some reason hadn't turned over the cash to purchase them. All it took was purchasing a (never worn yet) dress at the thrift store down the road. Immediately, an idea popped in my head - pairing this (not worn just yet) dress with high top red sneakers.

That's what did me in, I began scouring the cheapest way to purchase brand new chucks - it came down to an Ebay seller who sells them for half the price.

Now I just have to live out my dream.

A perfect Summer Saturday... and those perfect days deserve free, floating hippie clothes. There really is nothing better than embracing the inner bohemian and having absolutely no agenda!

Florals that Float

The display of the Floral Bubble Skirt bought weeks ago, but until this point hadn't pranced around yet.

Pairing the skirt with with just the right combination has for some reason been tougher than expected. I kept thinking of great fall ideas for the skirt - mixing with tights, leather jackets, cardigans.. and on and on.

Finally, I broke down and decided this bubble needed to float, so I paired it with a 80's leotard and cinched the waist with a rope and gold buckle belt. Let's not forget to mention the next item off the "Summer Hit List" - my new Steve Madden Sandals!

After breaking it in... I think I am ready to give this skirt the Summer treatment.

I received this request recently from a Society Girl in San Francisco, she wrote "I bought these shoes and fell in love. But when I got home to my closet, my mind blanked about what to wear with them. I live in San Francisco so there's a good chance I'll be wearing them year-round so I'd love to see what you would do with our all-over-the-map weather. Can you help?"

Of course I would love to help! I know what it is to fall in love with a pair of shoes... they have some sort of power over you.. you dream of them at night.. and design whole outfits around them (at least that is what I do).

Bright and Bold

Nothing says summer like Bright - Bold color choices. I love how this season is littered with brightly patterned prints and a mish mash of color combinations.

There was no mish-mashing here, but definitely bright and bold. To offset the tartness, I used a grey clutch and comfy booties. This look went straight from day into night.

First off my "Summer Hit List" - crossed it off, checked the box. My brightly plaid pinafore dress arrived in the mail via EBAY just a few days ago.

It was pure joy when I realized it was a perfect fit and exactly what I hoped for. Lately I have been reminiscing about the pinafore dresses worn by Carrie Bradshaw. There is something so girly and playful about the look.

Just the right thing for a warm summer evening.

A New Color Combination

As usual searching for inspiration in new places - I found it in a new blog Fruchtzwerg Island, where she simply says she's an "average girl writing about her average interests, life and stuff which are coming into her mind." Though the thoughts coming into her mind are anything but average.

She inspired me to look in places I hadn't yet discovered, and the latest being Harper's Bazaar Korea! Check out the most incredible unique wedding editorial in history. It was one of these photos that took me by surprise and motivated me to step into some new color combinations.

Summer Hit List

It's that time again. Time to compile a list of things to keep my eyes open for during the summer season. It may seem a bit greedy to compile a list of "wants", but actually I think it prevents over-spending or instant-gratification-spending.

All these items have been on my mind for a while now. Instead of buying something quickly and then regretting spending the money on something I don't really need, I find I am more excited and appreciative for the things that I saved up for or spent time considering (as in planning out outfits in my mind that would go with each item).

Instant Outfit: Blazers

There is nothing I have leaned on more this season than blazers - a black blazer, military inspired blazer, navy blazer - it has been my go-to item.

The blazer can be layered over any look and give it a new twist. Something as casual and cool as a t-shirt and jeans shorts all of a sudden receives a spin when the blazer is thrown on top. There is nothing more surprising than a maxi evening dress paired with the sophisticated blazer.

It is not just for the office anymore - make it work with anything.

The New 'Do

So, I did it! I chopped off all my long locks.

They will be missed, but I am really enjoying having something new. It will be interesting to see how the hair cut changes my style.. or if there will be no change.. we will see.

By the way, I am a big fan of the new Target International Go line ROGAN.This top is the perfect heathered grey color and the rolled sleeves are a great detail. I bought the top in an XL to give it a "boyfriend" look, I can't say I won't return to purchase more ROGAN.

I am packing my bags in preparation for a holiday weekend away from the grit and grime.. away to luxury and pampering.

Weekend getaways are like the cherry on top of an ice cream sunday! There is nothing strenuous to ponder when packing - everything should be light, comfortable and fabulous.

As travelers (and Society Girls) we should take inspiration from the women of era's gone by. Explorations were a luxury and that meant they stepped out in their best "traveling suit". With panache they strolled down the train platform or boarded the plane, and now it's our turn to make a SPLASH!

Consistently A Screwball

Consistency vs. "A little of this and a little of that".

Consistency interprets itself in fashion by mixing and matching a few colors into your look. Your accessories may match a color in the print of a dress or the skirt may match the shoes - while the top accents the other color.

"A little of this and a little of that" is exactly as it sounds. It's a screwball interpretation of fashion. Mixing prints, colors, patterns, textures - nothing really resembling or seeming to go together as one - but something about the whole mess is beautiful.

Trade It In!

It's the debut of the Chloé dress! This dress was worth every amount of traded clothing at Crossroads Trading Co. . I entered the store with a bundle of clothes I didn't wear anymore and walked out with my very first designer dress.

The idea of trading clothes is ingenuous! How often do we leave clothes hanging in our closet that we haven't even touched in months - even years? Get down and dirty and make the cuts - clean out the closet and trade, swap or send them to a thrift store.

In my experience once I've traded in my "I haven't touched these in forever" clothes, I don't even miss them - all I know is that I now own and twirl around in a beautiful and wonderful Chloé dress.

There was a time, just last year, when I noticed my hemlines had risen higher and higher. Think of last spring's baby doll and trapeze dresses. It was all the rage - I was continually pulling out the sewing machine and shortening my once long and flowy vintage dresses.

No more, this season accepts all lengths and I have put away the sewing machine and let the dresses and skirts stay the legnth they were created to be (this works nice for the legs that haven't seen the sun just yet).

I am sure I will still embrace the short little minis, but I am happy to go to great lengths!

When I am up and out shopping, I start with perusing each rack and grab anything and everything that looks interesting. I don't put much thought into each item until I head to the dressing room. This is where the process of elimination begins - weeding out what doesn't suit me or isn't fabulous - once determined I head to the register and make my purchases.

The moment I step outside the door, my creativity takes over and I immediately begin to think, "What do I have in my closet to work with this skirt?", "What could inspire a few looks?"

The wheels are churning and now instead of all these ideas living in my mind.. I bring you...

A thought that has been surfacing over and over again in my mind is the idea sparked by one of our most recent Society Girl's - Arden Wohl. She has a clear trademark with her multitude of eccentric headpieces. There is something mature about owning a trademark that travels with you through seasons of your life.

It may be one specific piece - a watch, ring, jacket, or sunglasses. It may be a specific style you embrace - a lip color, hairstyle, or fingernail polish. Whatever it is, people recognize it about you and it solidifies your iconic self.

For me, at this moment, is the sherbet painted nails and maybe my penchant for sky high heels. These Society Girls have a their own trademark, and I bet you do too..

Week Recap: I Will Never Say Never Again

Years of thrifting, sifting through all those "ugh.. 90's clothes". Paying no attention to the floaty dresses with the prim floral or plaid prints. Only thinking of the bad years of grunge.. not wanting to relive the middle school years of awkward braces, baggy high-waisted jeans and large flannel shirts.

Fashion is a funny thing! Now, all of a sudden I am sifting through those "ugh..9o's clothes" attracted to the prim floral and plaid prints. I watch reruns of 90's classics of television and I notice I am admiring their clothes.. maybe not their hairstyles.. but little aspects of their style here and there.

I will never say never when it comes to fashion again. I will never say that I will never wear a certain look, because you don't know when it going to turn around and look FABULOUS once again.

I sure went back on my word this weekend and busted out with all sorts of 90's apparel.. hey at least there are a lot more interesting goodies in the thrift stores all of a sudden.

I grew up loving the stage.. playing outrageous characters..maybe people laugh..primping in the dressing room - caking on makeup and false eyelashes. I loved every minute of it.

I still seem to be stuck on stage...playing different characters. Dressing up and down and not sticking to one specific role. Their may be some key themes in what I choose to wear - based on body type and certain obessions (um.. high waists) - but never only one role.

I actually admire some who are able to stick to a signature look.. but alas I am just a little dramatic in my choices.

My fixation with the "POW" - "BLAM" Batman has spreads it's caped wings further into my wardrobe. Ever since my encounter with the vintage Batman watch that I walked away from, I have been feeling the loss - and searching endlessly on Ebay for just the right one.

At last the Night Crusader is telling me it's time to get back to being a full time Society Girl! I am glad to be back....

Before my feverish coma took over the weekend... I almost went into a "greatest find coma". There are different varieties of great finds - there are vintage finds, thrift finds, and coveted designer (for a great price) finds. It was the third that I stumbled upon early in my weekend.

If you happen to live in a town with a buy-sell-trade store like Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads Trading Co. then you have probably experienced what I am about to tell you...

I exchanged a load of clothes that I hardly ever wear and found myself with a $70 credit to spend as I wish. While perusing the racks, I happened to look up and there in front of my eyes was the most beautiful, perfect, spring-like white CHLOE dress.

That's right a CHLOE dress - one I never thought I would be able to afford, but with my store credit it was at my fingertips!

There was no decision to make, I walked out a happy woman.. now Instant Outfit explores ways to style this perfect dress...or any spring white dress that you have hanging in your closet!

Compiling my List

The weekend was spent under a feverish coma, and I am just now trying to come out of it. So, no fun weekend recap and no fun outfits to display.

Time in bed has given me a chance to catch up on all my magazine reading and I have started to compile a list of "things to look for in a thrift store".

There are times that I just pop into a thrift store with no agenda, but more times when I have a goal or goals in mind. It helps eliminate the overwhelming chaos that loads itself onto the racks.

Here are just a few of the items I will be hunting for in the weeks to come:

1. I am totally into the Marc Jacobs idea of underwear becoming outerwear - in a very tasteful, chic kind of way.
2. The hippie bohemian in me cannot resist searching high and low for perfect circle sunglasses, and I may just have to turn to ebay to find them.
3. Yes, the girly-grunge look has taken hold in my closet and it wouldn't be complete without black Doc Martens.
4. Bracelets, bracelets, bracelets - I have a new obsession with wearing loads of bracelets.

I won't soon forget spotting the red converse sneakers as she swiftly walked past me and scooted into the tents. The combination of bright poppy red sneakers, grey treggings, and the Victorian inspired blazer was fashion week perfection.

She has often caught my eye in The Sartorialist's documentation of Fashion Week's across the world. Her style is classic and yet at the same time eye-catching. Each outfit is accessorized with an envy worthy item - a great coat, bag, belt, scarf - and let's not forget the shoes. I have to admit it was girl's like her that converted me over to the dark side (expensive-dramatic- fabulous shoes).

Elle, Teen Vogue, Nylon, Lula and now Jalouse round out my list of TOP FIVE FABULOUS MAGAZINES!

Up until this point there were only four magazines with the fifth spot just waiting to be filled. I have seen and heard about my final selection, but wasn't able to get my hands on an actual copy - seeing that it is a French magazine.

I finally discovered Jalouse among the stacks and six days later I am still wandering around carrying the copy.. I keep thumbing through finding new and wonderful inspiration.

A little side note to anyone without access - you can go online and look through archives of old issues dating back to 1997. Seriously, you can view the entire magazine page by page.

No wonder Jalouse is in my TOP FIVE!

Teen Vogue exclaims "A is for Americana" in their Spring A to Z style guide.

This look isn't just for the neighbor's backyard BBQ on the Fourth of July, it can be worn until the first leaf falls.

After a recent "Instant Outfit" tackled the striped shirt, I have continually been drawn to them amongst the racks. "White shirt, black shirt, ruffle skirt... ah... stripes!"

It doesn't matter if it is a skirt, shirt, pants... I can't help it - I am all striped out.

In a recent stripe hunt, I found this amazing skirt. The three pleats in front and the red, green, blue and yellow stripes, just about did me in. I was in stripe heaven! Won't you join me...

Miu Miu and Me!

My whole life I have been a bit theatrical. At a young age I would crawl over to a sound speaker, listen to the music till it was in my bones and begin to dance.. at least this is what I have been told.

I went from stage to stage - donning costumes of different characters, plastering fake eyelashes, painting big rosy cheeks and absorbing the spotlight.

Though I no longer take my cue and enter from stage left, I seem to take it with me wherever I go. I am drawn to character-driven style, and it is because of this that I absolutely adore Miu Miu's Spring 2008 collection of ballerina inspired dresses. The flounce, ruffles, bib front collars, painted dolls and fairies.. it was a parade of theatrics.

What was I to do but give my regards to Broadway!

Many of you have been asking if the The Vintage Society Store will still be opening.. and I am sorry I haven't responded directly to the question. The time is now!

The Vintage Society shop will not be opening in the original form that I envisioned - at least not at this time. This is not sad news, I think with any vision and dream you always have to be willing to grow and change as things progress - and for me the change has all been great.

Ultimately, I was a cubicle refugee with a load of creativity bursting at the seams. My desire was to wake up and say, "I love what I do!" - and for me that was being involved in the fashion world. The idea for The Vintage Society had been brewing for years, and I felt it was the only door that would be open to me... that was until I started The Vintage Society blog. This blog represented the same ideals of the store, and it was here that I fell in love. Fell in love with fashion writing, styling and connecting with other Society Girls.

It was also through this blog that door after door began to open and instead of only one option - I had many to choose from. This is where my vision began to expand, and if I chose to focus on only the store I would limit myself.

Now with my Quiksilver sponsorship, I will be opening the store through trunk shows (a pop up shop at SiteLA that will sell all the goodies), but will also have the freedom to explore all the options.

The Vintage Society blog will also be growing.. and there are more details to come.. so stay close.

Society Girls are not just fabulously fashionable - they are go-getters, creative, adventurous women. Society Girls don't just want to take a city by storm.. they want to take the whole country side by storm....and still look darn HOT!

Recently, one of our Society Girls sent me this email:

"I'm going on a backpacking trip for 5 weeks this summer, along with many other adventurers i'm sure, and i would love to know which essentials you would pick to bring with you on such a trip to keep it light, but still look fashionable! "

I myself have grand memories of trekking through numerous countries, surveying new landscapes, and meeting intriguing people.. but on a fashion note.. it can be tricky not look like a street urchin.

Instant Outfit scouts out some ways to "keep it light but still look fashionable".

It centers on the backpack, everything for 5, 6 or 7 weeks must be packed in this very limited space (not the usual 2, 3 and 4 bags..or maybe that is just me). To narrow your choices while packing I suggest a few things: darker colors (so the dirt don't show), juxtaposition of girl and boy (cause your tough but still a girl) and comfort (to keep you walking).

The core essentials: skinny jeans, black bandage skirt (thrown on with the boots you will be ready to hit the night life), a few vintage tees, tanks and plaid shirts, a warm tunic cardigan and full length coat, and finally a pair of comfortable but versitale boots (over the jeans, under the jeans and with the skirt).

The fillers: my philosophy for style in a limiting situation is accessories! Bring along a few funky hats and head wraps to mix it up everyday and toss in a brightly colored scarf to make it all pop. Something stylish but also practical is a belt with a bag attached (yes.. a fanny pack.. but not), this sucker can store your cash and essentials when you've left the backpack behind.

It's lighter later!

Daylight savings brings a big 'ole smile to my face. It also means I try with all my might to tuck the tights in a drawer and bust out the bare legs.... but that is a tough one.

After fighting through warm days covered in opaque black, brown and blue tights, I have thrown in the towel. It is time. Time to expose the legs (that need lotion) and release the toes (that need painting).

A weekend spent curled up on the couch, cough drops to sooth the throat and Tylenol to ease the pain - this was the state I was in when I succumbed to an "OC" marathon. Hours upon hours watching four teens live lives that would send me to the crazy house.. oh wait.. one character did go to the crazy house.

After my "OC" marathon, I couldn't keep up with the drama.. but I did take away an appreciation for one actress in particular. As the years have passed she has become someone to watch. It is that time again, time for The Vintage Society to take on a new, fresh editorial for Spring 2008. The season is awash with florals and I couldn't help but focus on petals, stems, and bouquets. The femine florals will be contrasted by a dry, barren desert location.

I have scouted locations, compiled inspiration and began to pull from The Vintage Society collection. I am excited to bring you into this season's "Desert Rose".

Thanks to Luella's Spring '08 runway, I have a new fixation on Batman's wearable memorabilia.... you know the "POW" - "BLAM" Batman from the old days. Luella mixed dainty floral prints, preppy cardigans and Batman - only she would come up with something so.. fabulously quirky.

"Batman-mania" took on a new life when I discovered a vintage Batman watch behind the counter of my local thrift store. I walked away without purchasing the caped crusader's time ticker, but soon found myself searching Ebay for anything Batman.

After sorely losing one after the other, I finally received this in the mail...

Alice in Wonderland

Last night's SiteLA party was a blur of activity and I am still reeling from all the excitement. I have two numb toes from wearing platforms for six hours, but I am a girl with a smile still on my face.

Here's the gist of what it looked like:

Days leading up to the party there were hours spent preparing "Beth's Closet" which featured clothes, inspiration, and the "Society Girl" short film. Pre-party activities included meeting with press and introducing them to "The Vintage Society". As the hour approached, PR reps manned the doors with "the list" and the crowd started pouring in. It was slammed and slammin' - the music, food and just about everything was perfect.

I feel like I am Alice in Wonderland. I have fallen down a rabbit hole and I am discovering a whole new adventurous world.

Weekend Recap: Basic Training

I have a problem... I don't buy basics! Definition of basics, "something that is fundamental; an essential ingredient... for one's wardrobe".

I am too often drawn to the unique - colorful - printed coat, dress or skirt. I forget to buy the basic tank top, shirt or pants. This causes difficulties when going to put an outfit together. I look in the closet and see a bunch of hodgepodge with no foundation, and you need the foundation to build upon.

I decided to start the weekend with a mission to find some basics. Baby steps to basics... baby steps to basics... for my first time I did pretty good. Three out of four purchases were basic.. I think!

"Ace, Deuce, Backhand, Back Swing"!

In my book, Tennis is by far the most stylish sport! The sport that defines preppy, that brings to mind Lacoste alligators, Adidas sweatbands and one indelible woman.

This woman twisted and darkened the often upbeat, preppy style. She took something and ran with it, and in the process defined a new uniform of savoir-faire. Her tennis dress, vintage slip and dainty barrette are always contrasted by the melancholy of her smoky eye-liner, heavy fur coat and blunt hair cut.

The sadness of her unrequited love is captured in her iconic look. She is our Society Girl of the Week...

Quiksilver Update: Launch Party Project

The Quiksilver Sponsorship officially launches next week with a grand 'ole party and that means The Vintage Society has been bustling with activity. Each of the six women being sponsored will feature something that captures the essence and life of their vision, and mine has been a blast to work on.

Instant Outfit: Floral Dress

Like I’ve said, I am itching for the spring. Especially this season - with all the “floral-goodness” popping up in stores. This season's florals look as if the painter actually brushed on each petal with perfection. They are decorating skirts, shirts, shoes, dresses.. bascially any open canvas.

Florals are not for only the feminine creature. They can be worn in a million different ways, and you don't have to have a green thumb to pull it off.
